Description
Ostracion nasus is known as the Shortnose boxfish is a species of boxfish found in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. This species grows to a length of 30 centimetres. It has a typical box shape just like every box fish. The eyes are big and place on the sides. Has a small protuberance above the mouth and a distinctly concave snout profile, and a short bulge nasal region, hence the name. The fishes leads a solitary life. Found around rocky and sandy substrates, also found in sheltered bays exposed to heavy silt and mud bottoms of coastal trawling grounds. Western Pacific, Sri Lanka and Sumatra to Fiji, north to the Philippines.
